the summer & winter time

From the meeting of two artists was born a series of unique pieces crafted by marquetry – a specialized, wood inlay process. Thus, naturally and nobly, Summertime is represented by a colorful garland of flowers with a delightful little ladybird flying above it, while Wintertime is subdued in icy tones embellished with the proud figure of a penguin.

Bastien Chevalier's interpretation of the concept has recreated this watch face in marquetry – the purest of all art forms, in a range of natural wood colors. 

He was born in an era of graffiti and public statement, and his highly contemporary style is radically different from the dated image one might have of marquetry. He opens up for us an alternative, more modern and unique aspect of this craft.

His work is enjoying increasing recognition having obtained international awards and the acclaim of his work in art salons and galleries.
